The conductor and composer Francesc Prat enjoys a varied career with special attention to the music of the XX-XXI centuries and to the operatic repertoire.
His interest in contemporary music has linked him to the conductor Jürg Henneberger and the Ensemble Phoenix Basel. Prat has been taking part of many of their projects among them the world première of Helmut Oehring’s opera “Gunten” and Michel Roth’s opera “Die Künstliche Mutter” as well as a new production of Georg Friedrich Haas’ opera “Nacht” at the Lucerne Festival. He has also a very close musical relationship with the Barcelona 216 and the Ensemble Ö! He works regularly at the Gare du Nord - Bahnhof für Neue Musik Basel and with the Òpera de Butxaca i Nova Creació (Barcelona).
He is currently assisting the english conductor Ivor Bolton. After some productions with him in Barcelona, Amsterdam and Salzburg, since 2014 he is working with him at the Teatro Real in Madrid, theater where Prat debuted last march 2016 conducting Wagner’s “Das Liebersverbot”. From 2012 up to 2015 he was regularly assisting Josep Pons at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona where he already assisted Sebastian Weigle before. His operatic repertoire includes several names of the contemporary scene (Haas, Sciarrino, Moser, Maxwell-Davies, Barret, Oehring) as well as names of the classical repertoire (Gluck, Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Verdi and Britten).
As a composer, his catalog is principally listed by chamber music and ensemble pieces most of them premiered in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy. In October 2012 he premiered his first opera in Basel.
Francesc Prat made his first musical studies at the Escolania de Montserrat. Continued his studies of Oboe, Piano and Theory at the Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona. Later he graduated in oboe at the Musikhochschule Luzern; composition at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Roland Moser; and conducting at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
